G7 and Fresh Events are proud to announce that Senegalese rapper AKON will be returning for a solo concert in Malta on August 14. The singer-songwriter is known as one of the most successful and versatile R&B singers of the last decade. AKON will be supported by Paul Oakenfold who will be headlining the concert's official after-party.

AKON rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of 'Locked Up', the first single from his debut album 'Trouble'. He is the first solo artist to hold the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. He has had six Grammy Awards nominations and produced hits for artists such as Lady Gaga and Leona Lewis.

It's easy to get complacent when you achieve the level of success Akon has achieved. With worldwide sales of over 7 million albums, certified gold and platinum status in over 23 countries, hundreds of guest appearances (including a collaboration with Michael Jackson), and the record for the first artist to have 2 songs simultaneously in the first and second place on the Billboard charts twice, you'd be forgiven for allowing Akon to lean back.

While being raised in Senegal, Akon would take all the percussion lessons taught by his father while simultaneously studying the violin and keyboard. Upon moving back to the States and later settling in Atlanta, the producer opened up a number of recording studios as an investment, but quickly found an urge to create music of his own.

The singer used his very own experiences as the basis for 'Trouble', his 2004 debut album which eventually sold over 2 million copies. 2006 saw the release of the follow-up 'Konvicted', which, with the help of now-ubiquitous songs like 'Smack That', 'I Wanna Love You' and 'Don't Matter' sold over 3 million copies.

Paul Oakenfold, one of the pioneers of dance music, will be supporting AKON for this show. Oakenfold will be headlining the concert's official after-party and will certainly make this year's 'Malta Summer Live' one to remember.

In addition to supporting Madonna around the world, Paul has been in the studio producing the bonus tracks for her brand new 'Greatest Hits' album. He has been touted as one of the world's leading DJ/remixers by various outlets including CNN, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and more. His film credits include music for 'Nobel Son', 'Collateral', 'Swordfish', 'The Matrix Reloaded', 'Pirates of the Caribbean', 'Die Another Day', 'Planet Of The Apes', 'The Bourne Identity' and 'Shrek II'. TV credits include music for Alias, 'Big Brother' and 'Las Vegas'.
